Unfiltered Expression: The Raw Intimacy of JFeelgood’s ‘A Simple Meditation

A Simple Meditation - painting by JFeelgood

“My idea was to escape a sense of contrived concept, while keeping my presence in pure unadulterated raw, honest expression. As true to a mirror for my spirits state as possible. I kept my paint time down to 10 minutes, no more. Whatever I could do in that time is what the painting would be. The absence of paintbrushes permits me to be more intimate with emerging expression, thus my only tools for application are the paint tubes and my hands. It began with ‘A Simple Meditation’ but it felt so good and right that a three piece series came of it. ‘Ronin’ and ‘Monarch’ followed to complete the series. “

Analysis of “A Simple Meditation”
“A Simple Meditation” by JFeelgood is an evocative acrylic on canvas piece measuring 24x36x2 inches. This painting captures the essence of introspection and inner peace through its abstract representation of a solitary figure. The use of bold, gestural strokes in yellow, white, and blue creates a dynamic interplay of color and form, conveying a sense of both energy and calm.

The central figure, rendered in an almost primitive style, appears deep in thought, holding a black cup—a possible symbol of contemplation or solitude. The abstract background, with its erratic lines and patches of color, suggests a chaotic mind seeking order and calm through meditation. The raw, unrefined brushwork adds an element of authenticity and emotional depth to the piece, inviting viewers to reflect on their own states of mind and the quest for tranquility amidst life’s chaos.

This painting is also featured in his book, ‘Thought Entropy‘, available for purchase on Amazon.
